Facade Materials: The ION Architecture Palette

Every facade begins with a material decision — one that shapes how a building reads in light, how it weathers over decades, and how it feels to the hand. At ION Architecture, we draw from five core facade systems, each suited to a different expression of material honesty.

Ceramic Granite

Veined and grained to echo quarried stone, ceramic granite brings the presence of natural marble without its fragility. It resists frost, UV, and algae, and individual panels can be replaced without disturbing the whole facade.

Ceramic Tile

For a cleaner, more contemporary reading, ceramic tile offers a wide range of profiles and module sizes with a secret-fix system that keeps the surface uninterrupted. Fast to install, frost-proof, and colour-stable under UV exposure.

Fibre Cement

A natural, renewable facade material available in smooth, granular, or matte finishes. Fibre cement resists insects, mould, and weather extremes, and is BRE A+ and BBA certified — a quietly durable choice for demanding climates.

HPL Compact

Robust and richly coloured, HPL compact panels are tested for weather and colour stability, resist impact, and require minimal upkeep. Available in face-fix or secret-fix systems, with PEFC-certified options for sustainably sourced projects.

Timber

Nothing reads warmer than timber. Sourced from PEFC- or FSC-certified forests, our timber facades come in a range of profiles and finishes, naturally durable and repairable, with optional fire-retardant and thermal treatments for exposed applications.

Each of these systems can be combined, layered, or used as a singular gesture — the right choice depends on climate, context, and the story a facade is meant to tell.
